RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat Sunday said India was a Hindu nation whose identity lay in its diversity. He, however, refrained from speaking about the controversial ‘ghar wapsi’ issue. He was addressing the concluding ceremony of the Sangh’s Gujarat unit’s three-day Karyakarta Shivir in Naroda on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.

Bhagwat said while other religions of the world teach tolerance, Hindu society has been for years saying that other religions would also have to be accepted. “They (other religions) said these people (who follow other religions) are not good, but you have to tolerate them, but Hinduism says that you have to accept everybody because everyone has an element of the best,” he said.

“This Indian culture, which is a Sanatan culture, teaches us to see the God in everything. We see and address the cow, the tulsi plant and Ganga river as God,” he said.

Appealing to thousands of swayamsevaks to unite for the betterment of the country, Bhagwat said, “We have to take advantage of this favourable condition. India is a Hindu nation. Now, people are realising what Sangh is all about. We have to take advantage of the conducive condition.” He said unless each and every individual of this nation doesn’t consider this country as his own, the problems will remain. “Why did some people come and rule us? We had our own army, our own states. We always had warriors, yet a few people conquered us. We have to keep our personal goals and differences at bay and work for the country,” Bhagwat said, invoking M N Roy, one of the pioneers of the Communist movement in India.

Bhagwat said India had led the world in the past as a “world leader” and there was peace during the period. The Hindu society has to come together to make the society strong.
