U2 front man Bono has thanked his family members, band mates and friends in the wake of his freak accident, while also celebrating the most important milestones of his year.

The 54-year-old rock star uploaded a “too long” alphabetical recount of the year in an attempt to “learn from his mistakes”.

Following a bike-ride accident in New York last November, Bono has claimed that he may never play guitar again.

He has stated that he has cancelled every public appearance for the first half of 2015 as he takes time out to prepare and recover in time for the next U2 tour.

The Dubliner thanked those who supported him in wake of the accident, when he was forced to miss his band’s highly anticipated performance at a World Aids Day benefit concert in Times Square.

The first on his list of praise was his wife of 32 years, Ali, however he noted “if her name were Zena I’d start the alphabet with her anyway”.

“Everything for me starts with her,” he said.

“Ali's take is more deadpan, less obviously romantic. She says winter solstice is her favorite day because after that the nights are getting shorter like me... haha.”

Bono devoted several paragraphs to his four children - Jordan, Eve, John and Elijah.

The proud father recalled the achievements of his daughters Jordan (studying poetry and undertaking humanitarian work) and “the star of the house” Eve (an actress).

Much to his disbelief, his teenage sons, Elijah and John, are “men now”.

“I refuse to admit John at 13 is taller than me...he's a natural comedian...He plays rugby as I did but he's better than I ever was. He broke his nose in a match this year. His mother and I were badly shaken. He rolled his eyes, and explained that greatest living Irishman Brian O'Driscoll broke his nose 13 times. So that's a dozen more to go.”

At 15 years old Elijah, also known as Eli, is showing promise by following in his musician father’s footsteps.

“Eli is a guitar shredder. Royal Blood is his favourite at the moment and their debut album is quite something. Motorhead is right up there too….Our boy Eli won't be a student for long.”

The global star also recognised his band mates - Larry Mullen, Adam Clayton and “U2's lightning conductor” The Edge.

“U2 is like the mafia. You can never really get out,” he joked.

Others included in his role of honour for the year included “innovator” Kanye West, talk show host Jimmy Fallon, Nobel Prize recipient Malala Yussef and Ali’s father Terry.
