Hundreds of members of the Muslim community took part in the Eid processions taken out in Hubballi and Dharwad on Sunday to mark the celebrations of Eid Milad Un-Nabi.

Celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar, Eid Milad commemorates the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad.

Religious fervour marked the celebrations with mass prayers being held at all mosques after which the processions began from various locations leading to the two places, from where the main Eid processions are taken out in Hubballi annually.

The main Eid procession began from Badi Masjid at Ganeshpet with Mutavalli Abdul Hamid Khairati leading it. As the procession progressed, members of various mosque committees joined it along the way at various points. Several students held banners and flags and placards praising Prophet Mohammad, while some joined the procession in decorated vehicles.

As the procession moved, slogans in praise of Prophet Mohammad reverberated in the air. Apart from the leaders of the Muslim community, a few Hindu leaders also took part in the procession.

As the procession passed through Mullana Oni, leaders of the Somavamsha Sahasrarjun Kshatriya Samaj including Vittal Ladwa, D.K. Chavan, Kashi Khode and others greeted the Muslim leaders like former minister A.M. Hindasageri and Jabbar Khan Honnalli, former Anjuman-e-islam President Mohammed Yusuf Savanur and others .

Beginning from Ganeshpet, the procession passed through Bindaragi Oni, Azad Road, Bandiwad Base, Durgad Bail, Old Mysore Store, Pendar Galli, Koulpet, Mulla Onli and New English School before culminating at the Darga at Asar Mohalla in Old Hubballi. Another procession originating from Islampur in Old Hubballi also culminated at the same place.

As elaborate security arrangements had been made and restrictions imposed on vehicular movement, the processions concluded smoothly without any hindrance. Police Commissioner Ravindra Prasad and senior police officials accompanied the processions till they concluded.

In Dharwad also, Eid procession was taken out with hundreds of people participating in it after the prayers at various mosques.
