The channel Big Magic brings to its the mythological comedy series Bal Gopal Kare Dhamaal . Actor Satyajit Sharma, who has essayed roles in films like Paa , Don and Chameli among others and in serial Balika Vadhu will be pumping the comedy quotient in the show. He plays the role of Gopal Sharma who is fortunate to be befriended by none other than God himself. The story revolves around the unique equation between a common man and the Almighty in modern times.

Satyajit talks to The Hindu about the concept of the serial and his role in it.

Excerpts:

How did you decide on becoming an actor? Was it always a passionate dream or a decision you made later on in life?

To think of it, it is still a mystery as to how I decided on becoming an actor because no member of my family was in this field. But the bell tinkled early. I belong to a middle class family but my parents were fairly supportive when it came to my acting career and me joining the National school of Drama. I came to Mumbai in 1991 and it was only sheer luck that I got to work on a project with Home Television within a week.

Tell us something about your upcoming series on Big Magic?

I have worked with Raman Kumar earlier too and after so many years when I was offered Bal Gopal Kare Dhamaal , the concept of God and man equation in a comical way it seemed to be very interesting and I could not say no.

Bal Gopal Kare Dhamaal is your first venture in the genre of comedy. How is it different from the other TV series that you've been a part of?

I have done comedy on stage earlier and on television it is more about the kind of opportunities you get. The project is very exciting and the type of comedy is very mature.

What made you take up a project and concept which is completely new to you?

I did not have to think about it much. For me the kind of production house and people I work with matters as well. The whole environment of this project was very positive. It is a good space to work in.

What is your take on the equation between God and man which your new series emphasises upon?

The whole equation depicted in the show is very interesting and what doubles the excitement is that God in this show is in the form of a child. The show also in a way brings the relationship between Krishna and Arjun to light.

You are popularly known as Basant, the role played by you in Balika Vadhu . How challenging is it for you to take up a role which is so different?

Balika Vadhu as a show had a different pace in which my role of Basant was that of a violent and uptight person. My character Gopal Sharma is completely different. It is very contrasting. It is challenging but exciting for me too. The difficulty factor is subsided when the script is good and you feel comfortable.

How do you think your fan base will take this new character that you are essaying? I would love to have people watching this show. A lot of hard work has gone into it. A very special factor which will interest the audience is the eight-year-old child who plays the role of Bal Gopal, the God.
