LIGHT electric-vehicle manufacturer Phil Etro EV Inc. is aiming to produce 2,000 electric motorcycle units in 2015, as part of its ongoing efforts against pollutant-emitting “two-stroke” motorcycles.
According to the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines, one of its members, Phil Etro EV Inc. will be manufacturing 2,000 units of its “Agila” motorcycles this year to establish a wider presence for their cleaner and environmentally friendly alternative.
Two-stroke engines, which most tricycles use today, emit more smoke and carbon monoxide than four-stroke engines found in more modern motorcycles.
The firm is already mass-producing the Agila motorcycles and two clients of Phil Etro EV Inc. are deploying 50 units in various local government units to show the benefits of electric motorcycles.
The company aims to produce 200 units in the first quarter of 2015 alone.
The Agila unit, the company said, is suitable for tricycle application and can carry a load of 350 kilograms, or five to seven people.
The current Agila motorcycle features certain smart features that enable the unit to be wirelessly connected to a central server.
