The Congress is on the verge staging a surprise victory in Chhattisgarh civic polls. The party is leading over the ruling BJP in a majority of seats, marking a remarkable recovery from the previous elections.

In 2009 polls, the Congress won only 3 of the 10 municipal corporations, 10 of 39 municipalities and 39 of 105 Nagar Panchayats.

The latest trends of today’s counting suggest that the party has won or is leading in 41 Nagar Panchayats, with BJP only 34. The Congress is leading in 17 municipalities and four municipal corporations. The BJP has already lost its several bastions including Judeo’s family ground of Jashpur.
