PMO responds to UP man's request for monetary support for sisters' wedding

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has sought details of UP resident Manjeet Sen's financial condition a year after he wrote a letter to the PMO for monetary assistance for the marriage of his two younger sisters, a newspaper said on Sunday.

Sen, a resident of UP's Bulandshahr district, wrote the letter in January 2014, stating that his financial condition was not good. He had also sent a list of expenses planned for the two marriages for which he required Rs 3.64 lakh.

Although the request was sent during the tenure of the then PM Manmohan Singh, it is the office of the present PM Narendra Modi that responded to it last month.

According to the Indian Express, the Bulandshahr DM has received a letter from the PMO through the state government seeking details about Sen's financial condition and his family background.

On Saturday, a team of district administration visited Sen's home at Jatpura village and collected the details. The team will prepare a report on his family background and his financial condition and it would be sent to the PMO through state government, the daily quoted sub-divisional magistrate, Anoopshahr, A.K. Yadav as saying.

Sen (25) is a teacher at a private school in nearby Khadana village. His father has recently left his job at a private firm in Noida because of his poor health. His mother is a homemaker. Of his three sisters Mohini (22) and Tanu (21) have studied upto class VIII while Pushpa (16) is a student of Class XI, according to the newspaper.

"I requested him either to arrange a job for me or provide financial help so that I could get my sisters married," said Sen who got the details of the PMO through Internet and sent the letter by post.

"To clarify that I was not seeking money for something else, I attached a list of expenses to be incurred in the two marriages including their dowry. The total cost mentioned in the list was Rs3.64 lakh," said Sen.

Sen gets a salary of Rs 2,200 from the private school.
