2 die in New Year’s Day accidents in Pune

PUNE: Two people died and one person sustained injuries in two different accidents at Hinjewadi and Bhosari on the first day of the new year.
In the first incident, the Hinjewadi police said that motorcycle rider Abhishek Thakur (18) of Bibwewadi, who was driving at a high speed, died after his vehicle skidded at Bavdhan around 11pm.
Thakur died of multiple injuries. The pillion rider, Shreya Prakash Desai (18), escaped with injuries.Police have registered a case against Thakur for rash and negligent driving under sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act.
In the second incident, a private bus allegedly knocked down an unidentified youth, who was about 20 years old, at Dighi Road in Bhosari around 11.15pm.
Police said the bus driver, who was speeding, knocked down the youth while he was crossing the road.
The driver, Ganpat Mahadeo Pujari (33) of Tukainagar in Bhosari, was arrested for reckless driving.
