Elephants trample three to death

RAIPUR: A herd of 18 elephants on Saturday killed three villagers of Chandapur in Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh. The incident has created a panic in villages abutting forests as it comes close on the heels of a similar attack on Friday in which a man was trampled to death by elephant.
Besides, elephants also damaged at least 10 houses. Agitated localsprotested and forcibly held forest officialshostagefor few hours and released them after getting assurance that authorities would takesteps to make the villagers and their housessafe from such attacks.
