SANGRUR – Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), led by state committee member Satvir Singh Tunga, burnt an effigy of state minister Bikram Singh Majithia at Traffic Lights Chowk in Sangrur.

The protesters demanded Majithia’s dismissal from the Punjab Cabinet as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had questioned him in a drug smuggling-related case.

Tunga said on the one hand, the Badal government was claiming to have eradicated the menace of drugs from the state and on the other hand, it had been supporting people like Majithia.

He said Majithia had no moral right to function as a state Cabinet minister and so, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should sack him.

Satvir Singh Tunga said an independent inquiry could be held only after Majithia resigned.

Protesters said people of Punjab would not tolerate it the Badal-led state government let Majithia hold on to his post.
