BENGALURU: Vibrant landscapes and portraits will make a splash as artists from across the country descend on Kumara Krupa Road on Sunday. The 12th edition of Chitra Santhe will be held from 8am to 7pm.
Organized by the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, the event is aimed at getting all sections of people to appreciate, enjoy and own art by making it available at affordable prices.
"People can visit a stall, bargain and go home with the painting of their choice. Perhaps, this is the only place in India where one can see and buy a variety of artworks like paintings on nature, gods and goddesses, flora and fauna, and portraits. CKP will not fix a price for the artwork, nor will it take commission. It's left to the buyer to decide the rate, based on the demand," said D K Chowta, general secretary, CKP.
On Saturday, work was on in full swing for what is emerging as the country's major art fair. Numbering of stalls on the road's pavements was going on.
The Parishath received applications from 1,500 artists and chose to display the works of 1,200. The artists were selected by a scrutiny panel of the CKP. Organizers are expecting massive footfalls running into 3-4 lakh. "The crowd is swelling by the year. At any given point, there will be at least one lakh people on the road," Chowta said.
The fair will not host reproductions like digital prints, photographs, crafts and handicrafts as they are banned. Care is also being taken to ensure that duplicate artworks are not sold. Sanjay Mehta, a digital artist from Delhi, has brought nearly 100 paintings. "This is the second time that I am participating. It's the right platform for artists to sell their works. I don't think such an event is held anywhere in India," said Mehta, national secretary, Creative Voize, a Delhi NGO supporting art.
Chitra Santhe has been selected for the 5th Friendz of 8Art award.
