Denied information under RTI, Jashodaben files appeal

AHMEDABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s estranged wife Jashodaben has filed an appeal under the Right to Information Act after Mehsana district police declined her earlier application seeking information about her security cover.
Mehsana police had declined her RTI plea on December 27 on the grounds that her queries were related to the local intelligence bureau (LIB) which was exempted under the RTI Act.
“I am the wife of Prime Minister of India....I have asked for the order's copy (regarding the protection given to her), which are not related with LIB (local intelligence bureau). So I demand to get the copy of those orders in this appeal,” Jashodaben stated in her appeal filed on December 30.
“There is no specific reason given to me in the reply (by Mehsana DySP) for denying the information. I am Prime Minister's wife, therefore the information under RTI was not given to me with someone's intervention,” Jashodaben said in the appeal.
Jashodaben has also demanded the copy of the state home department's order under which LIB was given exemption under RTI Act according to Mehsana police.
On November 24, 2014, she had filed an RTI application seeking documents related to the security cover given to her as per the government protocol for being Prime Minister’s wife.

She has also objected to her name being changed in the reply given by Mehsana police. In her first application, she had her name as Jashodaben Narendrabhai Modi. However, police in their reply changed it to her maiden name Jashodaben Chimanlal Modi.
She has sought reply on her appeal within 30 days.
