Shivam introduces dharma in a commercial way
From being called Basavanna to Shivam, which stars Upendra, Ragini Dwivedi and Saloni Asvwani in lead roles, has been on a roller coaster ride of sorts ever since it was in the making. With the beginning of the New Year, director Srinivas Raju is now looking forward to finally showcasing what the film’s team believes is a new idea. He gives us five reasons that make Shivam a must watch…
Shivam is about religion and has temples as its focal point and background right through, and that’s a first for a Kannada film.
The story is tailored to compel you to think and to question and draw your own analysis thereafter.
Upendra sports two different looks, one of them which has him in a never-seen-before avatar. Over the years, he has sported over a thousand looks in his films, and to find one in spite of that was challenging. It took hours of work each day to perfect the look for the shoot.
Upendra is known to reel out pages and pages of dialogues in his films, but this one sees him leave the talking to the others. The dialogues, however, are a highlight — again, programmed to make the viewer question what’s happening in society.
Shivam has been shot at various virgin locations as far as Sandalwood is concerned. The team had to wait days together to obtain permits to shoot at some of these locations. While there are enough and more foreign destinations that one can experience through this film, shooting at heritage temples, says the filmmaker, was quite the challenge.
While the music has been appreciated already, the film, most importantly, dissects the idea of dharma and reintroduces it to the audience in a rather commercial way.
