Music Review of Dolly Ki Doli: Hopelessly Horrible

The half star for this album, however, belongs to the power in Chauhan’s voice.

Dolly ki Doli, R... Rajkumar This is the R… Rajkumar of music.

Rating: 1/2 star

There are songs that lack lyrical depth. Then there are ones which are plain jarring in every sense of the word. Some make you want to push those index fingers into your ears and really question who makes these? The music of Dolly ki Doli is a blatant mockery of the idea of music. It has actually managed to pick a decent singer like Sunidhi Chauhan and made her go through the tyranny of the song titled Phatte tak chakna. The half star for this album, however, belongs to the power in Chauhan’s voice. Those lungs have got to breathe in some real doses of oxygen to put out a track like that. With no breathing space and fast rhythms pounding along, she retains the expression in her voice.

If not for her voice, the song could easily be rejected by those creating music in the B-grade Bhojpuri films. This is followed by Mamta Sharma’s Fashion khatam mujhpe. Her outings after Munni have been quite disappointing, with the exception of may be, Fevicol, which only did well because of a catchy hook. With dholak and drums paired with the constant cacophony of a tooting sound, the lyrics go, Char sau chalis mujhme current, jhatka maare top aur front. I’m all for songs that can entertain the rickshawpullers and blare from the autos of the country, but this one’s not raunchy. And definitely not entertaining. This is the R… Rajkumar of music. Do not buy it.
