Nagpur:
Adani Power offered a
compensation of Rs16 lakh each to the families of the two workers who were killed in an accident at the company’s
Tiroda plant on Tuesday. The victims’ kin were demanding Rs 10 lakh, but as a goodwill gesture the company has granted them a higher compensation, said a senior official in the plant.
The accident took place when the air washing units being erected at the plant fell down.
The work was being undertaken by
Gammon India. The legal dues came to around Rs4.5 lakh each.
The company has taken the matter seriously and a team from Gammon India is also trying to ascertain the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the debris was finally cleared from the site by Thursday.
Air washing units are required to reduce load on the chimney. Ambient air is pushed through the units into the chimney which helps in releasing the smoke effluents with lesser pressure. The accident has not hampered power generation and all the units are operational, said the source.
The source said five workers were trapped when the structure fell down. Three of them who were injured are out of danger. They have been admitted to a hospital in
Gondia.
