Neil Marshall Updates On Troll Hunter Remake & Dracula Movie The Last Voyage Of The Demeter

Director Neil Marshall has promised that his long-delayed films ‘Troll Hunter’ and ‘The Last Voyage of the Demeter’ are not dead.

The British filmmaker tells Arrow in the Head, “These projects are very much alive. It’s that thing where, at some point, something will click into place and it’ll happen. You kind of got to stick with them as long as you can.

"I’m still very, very passionate about doing ‘Troll Hunter’ and ‘Last Voyage of the Demeter.’ They’re great projects. I’m sticking with them, so fingers crossed we’ll get to see them one day."

Marshall was reported as being on board a remake of the acclaimed 2011 Norwegian monster movie ‘Troll Hunter’ in September 2013, whilst ‘Demeter’ - a revisionist take on ‘Dracula,’ charting the journey of the ship which unwittingly carries the arch-vampire from Transylvania to England - was first announced way back in June 2012.

Famously classed as a member of ‘the Splat Pack’ - the generation of new directors who spearheaded a wave of extreme, gore-heavy horror in the 2000s - Marshall exploded onto the scene with his 2002 soliders-versus-werewolves horror comedy ‘Dog Soldiers.’

The Newcastle-born director followed this up with 2005’s intensely claustrophobic and brutal ‘The Descent,’ widely acknowledged as an instant horror classic. Marshall then side-stepped into more action-oriented territory with 2008’s ‘Mad Max’-esque post-apocalyptic thriller ‘Doomsday,’ and 2010’s period adventure ‘Centurion.’

The years since have seen Marshall linked to a number of films which to date have unfortunately failed to materialise. However, he has directed some notable TV work including two particularly epic episodes of ‘Game of Thrones,’ and the pilots of ‘Black Sails’ and ‘Constantine.’

Unsurprisingly, horror fans have been uneasy with the idea of so esteemed a filmmaker returning to the big screen with a remake of a highly regarded contemporary film such as ‘Troll Hunter,’ but it’s fair to say many fans just want to see Marshall return to directing film no matter what.

However, it looks unlikely that it will be this film which brings Marshall back to the cinemas, as Arrow in the Head reveal he is set to shoot an as-yet unspecified film this March for horror hit-makers Blumhouse, the production company behind such franchises as ‘Paranormal Activity,’ ‘Insidious’ and ‘The Purge.’ They also mention that Marshall has his own TV series in development.

Marshall’s next confirmed directorial credit is a chapter in ‘Tales of Halloween,’ a seasonal anthology horror produced by his wife Axelle Carolyn, with contributions from many other modern horror filmmakers including Darren Lynn Bousman (‘Saw II- IV’) and Mike Mendez (‘Big-Ass Spider’).
