The Belly Wash is a blend of sauerkraut, cabbage juice, beet juice, beef bouillon, wasabi, ginger root, spinach, peppermint liquor, baking soda, aloe vera -- garnished with fresh spinach and ginger root.

For many New Year's Day marks not only the beginning of new resolutions but also a headache from too many drinks the night before.

Advil and Gatorade not doing the trick? How do raw quail eggs, roasted sheep intestines, milk thistle and carbon from burnt toast sound? The Old Homestead Steakhouse in New York City's Meatpacking District is offering up 147-year-old hangover remedies on Jan. 1 for the brave or just plain desperate.

Here is a list of offerings:

Belly Wash: The blended drink is a mix of sauerkraut, cabbage juice, beet juice, beef bouillon, wasabi, ginger root, spinach, peppermint liquor, baking soda and aloe vera. As if it couldn't get any worse, the drink is served warm.

Roman Remedy: Co-owner Marc Sherry says it is a recipe borrowed straight from ancient Rome. The cold drink is a blend of raw quail eggs (the Romans used owl eggs), roasted sheep intestines seasoned with milk thistle extract and carbon from burnt toast.

Looks can be deceiving. Annabelle's Head Banger is a blend of green tea extract, banana, honey spinach juice, gherkin juice, asparagus juice, garlic, lentils, white kidney beans and cayenne pepper.

Annabelle's Head Banger: If the belly wash seemed rough, the head banger is on another level, according to Sherry. The drink is a mix of green tea extract, banana, honey, spinach juice, gherkin juice, asparagus juice, garlic, lentils, white kidney beans and cayenne pepper.

Beef-Fest Breakfast Buster: This could be the safest option on the list. Sherry says his father made the dish popular by slow-roasting the beef shank for several hours until it was tender. The Beef-Fest Breakfast features an 8-pound USDA prime beef shank braised in Barolo wine sauce with apples and carrots; 19-ounce bacon-wrapped filet mignon, and beet salad with a honey-ginger fennel cranberry dressing.

When the restaurant hands out the recipes New Year's Eve, Sherry says they'll be adding the good-old fashioned "take two Advil and nap" to the list of hangover cures.

If all else fails, you could always try a hamburger and coke.
