Indore/Mhow: Braving odd weather, New Year revelers are turning up in large numbers to welcome 2015 at the picturesque Mandu on Wednesday.
Vishwanath Tiwari, the official guide of Archeological Survey of India (ASI), told TOI that like every year, Mandu has proved to be the most favourite destination not only for tourists from Malwa region but also from Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Tiwari said about 25,000 tourists visited Mandu on Sunday. All picnic spots were jam packed with tourists of all age groups. The number crossed 35,000 on Wednesday. He said all those who have not been able to get bookings in any hotels will either stay in Indore or Dhar.
Vikramaditya Singh, a tourist from Jhalawad in Rajasthan, said the dipping temperature has enhanced the need for a proper place to stay. In such weather, it is only natural that tourists will go to Indore.
Sub inspector Kailash Chandra Beiragi of Mandu police station said looking at the number of tourists, extra security arrangements have been made. He said the reserve police force reached Dhar on Wednesday morning and will remain there till Thursday evening to ensure police deployment at all important places in and around Mandu
