ALLAHABAD: As many as 13 girl inmates aged between 15 and 18 years of the Balika Sudhar Griha in Sadar bazar area escaped after thrashing the security guard under Kotwali police circle of Pratapgarh district in the wee-hours of Wednesday. Following the incident, a major hunt has been launched by police and district authorities.
Pratapgarh superintendent of police BKS Yadav told TOI, “As many as 13 girl inmates of the Balika Bal Sudhar Griha, who were brought from Allahabad escaped after breaking the lock.”
He added, “Police teams have been deputed to trace their location after a complaint was lodged at the Kotwali police station of the district”.

District probation officer P K Mishra told TOI, “The girl inmates were kept at the shelter run by NGO Pt. G P Samajik Sewa & Shiksha Sansthan. They were reported to have attacked woman guard Asha and gagged the superintendent of home so that she could not raise alarm.” Mishra added that a probe had been ordered into the incident and guilty would be punished.
On November 22, a joint team of Allahabad police and volunteers of an NGO had rescued a total of 22 minor girls from the red light area of the city after conducting a series of raids.
Later, these rescued minor girls were shifted to the Pratapgarh-based home. Pratapgarh police have sought help of neighbouring district police counters to locate the inmates and police have carried out a series of raids.
