Three employees of Asma Rubber Products Private Limited at the Cochin Special Economic Zone were suspended following allegations that they had subjected other women in the company to a strip search.

Supervisor A.N. Beena, assistant supervisor Biji M. Paul and cleaning staff Prameela were suspended pending inquiry after 15 women employees of the company complained that the three women had subjected them to a strip search after a used sanitary napkin was found in the washroom. The unit would also be closed temporarily from midnight on Wednesday, company managing director C.Y.A. Rahim said. “The unit has been shut temporarily as the working atmosphere has been disturbed. We want any wrongdoers to be punished and are fully cooperating with the probe, both by the police and the SEZ,” he said. The SEZ had constituted a four-member committee to probe the issue. The committee is continuing with its investigation and is expected to submit a report.
