New road tax proposed in Bhayander, Mumbai

Residents of Mira-Bhayander continue to suffer uneven and potholed roads round the year, but the standing committee of the municipal corporation of that city passed a proposal to impose a new road tax on Monday.

MUMBAI: Residents of Mira-Bhayander continue to suffer uneven and potholed roads round the year, but the standing committee of the municipal corporation of that city passed a proposal to impose a new road tax on Monday.
The proposal to levy 10% road tax was made by BJP corporator Nayana Vasani. It was seconded by the Harishchandra Aamgaokar of the Shiv Sena. The proposal is now to be placed before the general body of the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) in in its meeting.

The standing committee also proposed a hike in water tax to Rs 10 per 1,000 litres from Rs 7 per 1,000 litres. For commercial use, the tax would be Rs 40 per 1,000 litres instead of Rs 28.
Charges for new water connections were also substantially raised.
As fire service charge, a capitation fee of 20% was also approved by the standing committee of the MBMC.
The tax proposals were approved by the BJP-Sena-Bahujan Vikas Aghadi. The Congress-NCP opposed the increase in tax.
