MANILA, Philippines – A 5.1 magnitude earthquake rocked the town of Burgos in Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte, Tuesday night, December 30, state volcanologists said. 

In a bulletin, the Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake hit 61 kilometers northeast of Burgos 8 pm Tuesday. 

Authorities are not expecting any damages. 

An hour later, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook the town of General Luna in Surigao del Norte. 

The tremors were also  felt in Surigao City.

No aftershocks or damages are expected after the second tremor, Phivolcs said.

On Monday, December 29, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck 200 kilometers northwest of Zamboanga City. No damages or casualties have  been reported. – Rappler.com
