RAJKOT: Tejas Khachar, who was on the run since November 2 after murdering financier Shaktiraj Khuman, was nabbed from Chotila in Surendranagar on Sunday.
Khuman, 32, owner of a private financing firm in the city, was shot dead by his cousin Tejas,25, from a point blank range at a hotel on Kalawad Road in the city. He is survived by his wife and a two-year-old daughter.
They were enjoying each other’s company until Tejas opened two rounds of fire on his brother when he was preparing coffee for the two, sources said.
Shaktiraj was rushed to a private hospital where he succumbed to his bullet injuries on November 4. An FIR was registered against Tejas, a resident of Turkha village in Botad district, on the basis of a complaint submitted by Raghuvir Khuman, deceased’s younger brother.
Tejas owned a restaurant named Food Zone in Botad and had just come out of jail after being behind bars on the charges of attempt to murder against him. He was arrested by the sleuths of Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of city police. “We received a tip off that Tejas was coming to offer prayers at Suraj Deval village near Chotila in Surendranagar on Sunday. We arrested him as soon as he arrived there. He has been brought to the city,’’ said a police officer.
Police claimed that Tejas had given Rs 5 lakh to Shaktiraj a few years ago but the latter failed to return him the money despite several requests. A frustrated Tejas then decided to eliminate him. “He got the weapon from his relative Bharat Basia of Chamardi village in Surendranagar to kill his cousin brother,’’ the police officer said.
