Melbourne: The fourth day turned out to be crucial for both sides as it may decide the fate of third test at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia is settled with a massive lead in second innings and looking to set the maximum target for Indians.

The match will start half an hour early at 4:30 am according to Indian timings tomorrow on 5th Day of the test.

Will Australia declare their innings overnight and let India bat whole day tomorrow? The game is very well poised between both the sides.

Burns and Haddin departed cheaply. However, Marsh dug in before essaying some gorgeous drives. Mitch Johnson briefly hung in before he was sent off by Kohli. Ishant Sharma set the ball rolling in the final session of day 4, testing the hosts in the channel outside off. He was duly rewarded when Burns edged one to Dhoni. Shami and Umesh supported Ishant well as India did not give away easy runs. Ashwin chipped in, showing good discipline as well.

The sixth and seventh wickets have added 85 runs till now. There is still no sign of declaration as Australia will have the Adelaide game in mind.

STUMPS DAY 4

Australia 261/7 after 75 overs (lead by 326 runs)

Marsh 62 (131), Harris 8 (27)

Shaun Marsh 2nd test half century lifted Australia to 261/7 at the end of Day 4 with an overall lead of 326 runs. They played too defensive in the last 10 overs, scoring just 33 runs and lost the wicket of Johnson. Ryan Harris at other end supported his partner well and tried to take singles to give Marsh the maximum strike.

Ryan Harris is in at no. 9

Australia 234/7

Mitchell Johnson c Rahane b Shami 15 (27)

OUT! Bouncer worked again for Shami. Short pitched, Johnson tried to pull but miscued it and throws the ball straight to Rahane at midwicket.

Australia 228/6 after 65 overs (lead by 293 runs)

Marsh 44 (105), Johnson 9 (20)

Both the batsmen Marsh and Johnson are playing it safe out there. They know they can't afford to lose another one here. Marsh survived a huge lbw appeal by Ishant Sharma but it was pitched outside leg. Johnson whose bat was silent so far gone against the spin of Ashwin for a deep square leg boundary.

Australia 214/6 after 60 overs (lead by 279 runs)

Marsh 36 (86), Johnson 4 (9)

It has been India's session so far. They have been disciplined with the ball and have picked up Burns and Haddin. Ishant was the pick of the bowlers with Shami and Ashwin playing the supporting act. If they can get through the lower-order quickly, then the match will be set up nicely for the final day. Shaun Marsh is key in Australia's second innings with Johnson at other end and tailenders to follow.

Mitchell Johnson is in at no. 8. What can he do here...

Australia 202/6

Brad Haddin c Dhoni b Yadav 13 (27)

OUT! Haddin struggle ends after players appeal for caught behind and the umpire raises his finger. The ball was drifting down the leg side. He looked to flick but it touches the bat very close  and another dismissal for Dhoni. Yadav gets his second. Haddin is not happy.

Australia 200/5 after 55 overs (lead by 265 runs)

Marsh 28 (67), Haddin 11 (25)

Are Australia playing for a draw here? Their scoring rate has been very low. Though Marsh scored two boundaries off Umesh Yadav to take Australia's total past 200. While Haddin on the other end is still struggling.

The umpires just brought out the light meters. Not what India wanted at this stage of the game. It has certainly gone dark and the lights have been turned on. They are slowly taking effect. Winds have picked up here at MCG.

Australia 181/5 after 50 overs (lead by 246 runs)

Marsh 17 (48), Haddin 3 (14)

The bowlers have started making the batsmen struggle for the first time in the match. India started with the wicket of Joe Burns just after the tea break. Brad Haddin who was the star of the first innings in latter is struggling with the deliveries outside off. It has been a good start from Ishant and Shami. They have given only 7 runs away in 7 overs. There is a hint of reverse swing and they are keeping it in the right areas.

Brad Haddin is in at no. 7

Australia 174/5

Joe Burns c Dhoni b Ishant  9 (17)

OUT! Edged and taken. Twin failures for Burns. Ishant gets his second. It was a length ball outside off Burns gets a thick outside and another catch by Dhoni.

Ishant has the ball in his hands. He will start with a slip and a gully for Shaun Marsh.

Third session is about to begin. It will be a long one of about 160 minutes only if weather permits.

-----------------------

If India can restrict them with the lead around 330, then they could well make a match out of it.

Burns and Marsh will now look to extend the lead further and prove their worth in the team. With a back-to-form Haddin and a spirited so-called tailenders to follow.

Umesh and Shami sprayed the ball all over the place, Ishant was nice and tight. Ravi Ashwin got some good spin and prised out Rogers just before the break.

Chris Rogers got to his second fifty of the game and fourth in a row. However, he failed to convert it into a big one. Watson was the first to depart, nicking off Ishant to Dhoni. Steve Smith was his usual busy self before falling to the leg-side trap.

TEA BREAK

Australia 174/4 after 43 overs (lead by 239 runs)

Marsh 15 (27), Burns 8 (9)

Ashwin once again getting the major breakthrough for India after dismissing Chris Rogers who was looking good enough to take Australia's total to a massive one. The boundaries have stopped but runs are still flowing in form of singles and doubles.

Joe Burns is in at no. 6

Australia 164/4

Chris Rogers b Ashwin  69 (123)

OUT! Ashwin gets his second wicket. It was slightly outside off which came in with extra pace. The ball hits the under edge of the bat and rolled onto the stumps. A tongue-out celebration by Ashwin.

Australia 164/3 after 40 overs (lead by 229 runs)

Rogers 69 (120), Marsh 13 (21)

Chris Rogers is doing what Warner could not do in the innings. He is slowly gaining pace in his innings after hitting two back to back boundaries off Ishant Sharma. Marsh is supporting him very well from the other end. These two have been scoring at the run rate of more than 5 runs per over.

Australia 139/3 after 35 overs (lead by 204 runs)

Rogers 56 (105), Marsh 6 (6)

India started well through Ishant, who picked the wicket of Watson. He has kept one end tight, but has not got any support from Shami or Umesh. Both have been erratic until Yadav dismissed in-form Aussie skipper Steven Smith at the score of 14. Shaun Marsh the new man in after Smith got off the mark with a b boundary past gully. The tactics of keeping the ball down the leg side suddenly started working for India. Rogers survived a caught behind dismissal after third umpire turned down the catch taken by Dhoni. India need to keep a lid on the scoring rate.

Shaun Marsh comes in at no. 5

Australia 131/3

Steven Smith c Rahane b Yadav 14 (27)

OUT! Yadav gets the wicket finally! The man in form Smith tried to flick it to fine leg and Rahane did well to take that at leg slip.

The weather is getting overcast yet again. Probably a passing cloud.

Australia 117/2after 30 overs (lead by 182 runs)

Rogers 53 (94), Smith 3 (13)

Chris Rogers who was looking too much defensive in the beginning is now seem to be in the attacking mode. He hit couple of boundaries to reach to his fourth consecutive half-century. Smith on the other end is trying to give maximum strike to Rogers by taking singles and ducking the ball.

Australia 98/2after 25 overs (lead by 163 runs)

Rogers 38 (71), Smith 0 (5)

Good start by the bowlers after the break. Ishant started the proceedings with a dropped catch of Rogers by Dhawan at slips followed by Watson's dismissal in the next over by him. Shami shared the ball from other end and conceded just a single.

The Sun is out and it's now a lot brighter

Steven Smith is in at no. 4

Australia 98/2

Shane Watson c Dhoni b Ishant 17 (34)

OUT! Ishant gets his man! Watson gets an outside edge and Dhoni takes the good low catch. Umpires checked for front foot no-ball but it's fine. Watson has to go.

Shane Watson and Chris Rogers are walking out after an hour long delay start of the second session.

The Indian players are warming up by the edge of the boundary.

Good news! The rain has stopped and the green signal has been given to the match. The play will resume shortly.

Match delayed by rain

There was rain predicted later on in the afternoon, but a little drizzle has started. The pitch has been covered and we might have a slight delay in the start of play. There was plenty of wind during the break and the ad cushions were flying around.

Second session will be underway in moments. Hope there will be no interruption by the rain in afternoon. There were speedy winds blowing during lunch break.

Australia are in the driver's seat. They are in a position where they can call all the shots. India need some quick wickets to get back in the game, otherwise they will be chasing a huge target on the last day.

-----------------------------------------

There is rain forecast in the afternoon.Indian bowlers should look to stem the run-flow, otherwise Australia will run away with the series.

Australia have scored at 4rpo in the 22 overs that they have batted. Now lead by 155 and with still 64 overs left in the day, if they continue in the same vein, they can think of a declaration late on even today. India have been flat with the ball with the exception of Ashwin and to a minor extent Ishant. Ashwin bowled well and was rewarded with the wicket of Warner who was threatening to take the game away from India. That wicket has pegged things back a little. But still Australia in a very good position in the game.

LUNCH BREAK

Australia 90/1 after 22 overs (lead by 155 runs)

Rogers 33 (64), Watson 15 (27)

Warner's dismissal has but the brakes on Australian pace of scoring runs but the batsmen are still getting runs in form of singles and boundaries on couple of occasions. Indian fielding have been sloppy as well. Ishant and Ashwin, both have been the pick of the bowlers this morning.

Australia 59/1 after 15 overs (lead by 124 runs)

Rogers 15 (45), Watson 2 (4)

Warner was the man doing most of the scoring before he was given lbw by the umpire off Ashwin. Umesh was rubbish in his opening spell and that forced Dhoni to bring Ishant and Ashwin early to stem the flow of runs. They have done so successfully so far.

Shane Watson is the next man in

Australia 57/1

David Warner lbw b Ashwin 40 (42)

OUT! Big shout for lbw and given by the umpire. Ashwin gets the big man Warner. He was plumbed in front.

Australia 47/0 after 10 overs (lead by 112 runs)

Warner 38 (30), Rogers 9 (30)

The game seems to be racing away from India. Australia have the lead of runs in just a blink of an eye this morning. Bowlers had a poor start yet again and Umesh Yadav was the worst. David Warner assaulted him badly hitting 5 boundaries in his three overs. Ishant who should have shared the new ball with Shami instead of Umesh Yadav has bowled two overs, both maidens.

Australia 34/0 after 5 overs (lead by 99 runs)

Warner 31 (17), Rogers 3 (13)

Runs are flowing for Australia this morning. Umesh Yadav got off to a poor start. He bowled a wild delivery outside off which was carted by Warner for four and then the batsmen ran four. In his second over of the day an inside edge by Warner went over the stumps for four and brings up his 3000 test runs. He is batting in different pace than Rogers. He got an outside edge off Shami at the other end but that didn't carried well to Dhawan at 2nd slip. Indian bowlers have already conceded seven boundaries including the 4 runs ran by the opening duo on two occasions in first 5 overs. They are still sticking with the strategy of short balls. Umesh Yadav has already leaked 32 runs in his 3 overs early today.

David Warner and Chris Rogers are out in the middle. Umesh Yadav has the new ball

Australian second innings will be underway in moments.

--------------------------------------

India just added 3 runs today and Australia have a lead of 65. Now everything depends on Indian bowlers how they bowl. They must not just restrict to bowling bouncers as they did in first innings. Australian batsmen would look to score the maximum today and might give India two session of play tomorrow.

A sheer batting collapse yet again. From 409/3 the visitors went down to 465 all out.

3, 11, 0, 12, 0, 0 is India's last 6 batsmen score.

India 465 all out in 128.5 overs (trail by 65 runs)

Ishant Sharma 0 (6)

Mohammad Shami c Smith b Johnson 12 (30)

OUT! Johnson wrapped up the tail. Shami gets an outside to Smith at slips. And that end of Indian innings with just three runs added to overnight total in just 10 minutes of time.

Ishant Sharma is the last man in

India 462/9

Umesh Yadav c Haddin b Johnson 0 (2)

OUT! Wicket on the second ball of the day. Short pitch and gets an outside edge from the bat. Brad Haddin takes the catch.

Mitchell Johnson is left with 4 balls to deliver in his over and Umesh Yadav will take strike

Outcomes two fast bowlers Mohmmad Shami and Umesh Yadav to bat

Players are walking in and the morning session of fourth day is about to begin

Weather update: It's quite overcast here and there are 70% chances of rain

Australia look set to take the lead with only two wickets in hand for India and it's just the matter of time to wind up the tail. The batsmen did their job and now Indian bowlers have the responsibility to restrict Australia to the least total as possible in order to get a minimum target to chase. The game is still evenly poised.

Ryan Harris was the pick of the Aussie bowlers, taking 4/69.

Rahane continued to score at a brisk pace en route to his third Test ton, all of those coming overseas. Kohli led India's fightback from the third ball of the day to the last ball of the day when Johnson had the last laugh after a lot of drama during the day's play.

There was a brief collapse after Rahane's dismissal, as debutant KL Rahul failed to make much of the opportunity and MS Dhoni and R Ashwin fell in quick succession, but Kohli's stand with Shami ensured India did not succumb in a hurry.

Tons from Kohli and Rahane led India's spirited reply as they reduced the deficit to 68. The massive 262-run stand was the highlight of the day. However, Australia hit back, taking 5 wickets in the final session.

At stumps on Day 3, Kohli walked back to a huge standing ovation by the crowd. His magnificent 169, and his mammoth partnership with Ajinkya Rahane ensured India didn't fall back too far behind in the Test.
