A woman from Chennai has been confirmed dead in the Church Street bomb blast that shook the city on Sunday evening.
The 38-year-old had sustained critical injuries in the low-intensity blast that took place around 8.30 pm near Coconut Grove restaurant in the heart of the city.
She was rushed to the nearby Mallaya hospital with severe head injuries, but was confirmed dead later.
The deceased has been identified as Bhavani Devi, a mother of two from Chennai. A relative of he woman, who was also injured in the blast, is said to be out of danger. The family was visiting the city for Christmas vacation.
Eyewitness said at least four people had sustained 'minor' injuries. Local reports claim that the police have questioned two youths. However, the investigation agencies have stated that nobody has been detained.
The police are now going through the CCTV footages in the area, while the forensic team is trying to study the IED to find any clues that could assist in the investigation.
The Bangalore blast has triggered a red alert across all the major metros in the country including New Delhi and Mumbai.
The Karnataka Home Department has formed a special investigation team that will work on the Bangalore blast and will probe all angles, police sources said.
