Result: Journalist Panel wins press club polls

Shehryar Khan and Tariq Choudhry retained their seats of president and secretary, by getting 1,329 and 1,249 votes.

Journalist Panel on Saturday won the National Press Club elections 2014-15, said a press release.  


Shehryar Khan and Tariq Choudhry retained their seats of president and secretary, getting 1,329 and 1,249 votes respectively.

A total of 1,420 members cast their votes out of 3,277 registered voters. Abdur Razzaq Sial, Baqir Sajjad Syed and Shakir Solangi were elected vice-presidents.

The other two presidential candidates, Farrukh Nawaz Bhatti and Naseeb Elahi, received 49 and 25 votes respectively.

Finance Secretary Waqar Satti, joint secretaries Amir Sajjad Syed and Shafqat Hussain Saba and all governing body members — Nawabzada Khurshid, Waseem Khan, Ejaz Hussain Malik, Malik Qasim, Sohail Shahzad, Syed Nasir Abbas Naqvi, Syed Samar Abbas, Basharat Khan Abbasi, Syed Waqar Hussain Kazmi, Kashif Rafique, Muhammad Qaiser Mirza, Syed Shaheryar Hussain, Hadi Abdul Mannan, Mohsin Ali and Nosheen Akbar ­— were elected unopposed.

On women’s four reserved seats vice-president Fareeda Hafeez, and Joint Secretary Myra Azam, and two governing body seats Sadia Sahar and Afshan Qureshi were also elected unopposed.

The polling started at 10am and continued till 9pm without any break.

The election, however, was mired by the controversy after the main opposition group “Jago Panel”, which is led by Matiullah Jan, boycotted the election because of “a large number of bogus voters”.
