PARIS -- French food producer Danone is doggedly pursuing merger and acquisition opportunities in developing countries, looking to quickly build a base in those regions from which to corral consumers.

The company sees growing demand for its products in developing countries, where interest in health foods is increasing along with middle-class incomes. In an announcement earlier this month, Danone stressed that it "will continue to expand capacity rapidly and build development platforms in fast-growing regions, particularly Asia and Africa."
