MOGA: Four youths, including an NRI, died in a road accident on late December 26 night in Moga district. They were going to Gholia Kalan village from Moga when their car hit a tractor-trailer near Singhawala village. All were declared brought dead to the Moga civil hospital.
NRI Husandeep Singh, 20; Swaran Singh, 23; Lavpreet Singh, 24, also from Gholia Kalan; and Sukhpreet Singh, 24, of Nahal Khote village were returning to Moga after having dinner.
Their car hit the tractor-trailer from behind near Singhawala on the Moga-Kotkapura Road as the visibility was poor due to fog.
Singhawala residents informed the police about the accident. "We had a tough time pulling out bodies from the car in dense fog and chilly weather," said villager Gurmukh Singh. The tractor driver fled from the scene leaving behind the vehicle.
Husandeep's cousin Naib Singh said he was the only son of his parents living in Canada. "Only a month ago Husandeep had come to India to visit relatives. He was to return after few days," said Naib.
Charrik station house officer Jayant Singh said, "A case of negligent driving has been registered against the unknown tractor driver as the trailer had no reflector on the rear side."
