BMC to upgrade health posts under national urban mission

The BMC has 183 PHCs and 162 dispensaries across the city. In absence of lab technicians, the patients visiting the health posts were often referred to the closest civic-run hospitals for clinical testing, admitted BMC’s executive health officer Dr Padmaja Keskar.

“It is a phase-wise process and will take some time to be implemented across the city. But with the availability of lab technicians, patients visiting health posts for minor health issues will not have to be referred to hospitals. This will also reduce the out-patient department load of hospitals,” said Keskar.

Additionally, the civic-run dispensaries will be upgraded to have technicians along with full-time pharmacists.
