Patna SP handles 50 police stations!
PATNA: The state home department has recently demarcated the jurisdiction of city SP and rural SP of Patna. After the new demarcation, the city SP will handle 50 police stations while the rural SP will deal with only 19 police stations.
In 2011, Bihar government had created three posts of city SP in the state capital in view of its increasing population and crime. Now, it has only one IPS officer as the city SP.
“In 2011, there were three city SPs — east, west and central. The notification was never withdrawn. The new notification was marked to all the three city SPs but there is only one – Shivdeep Lande. Who will receive the letter on behalf of other city SPs,” a Patna police officer quipped.
According to the new notification, Patna City, Sadar and Masaurhi subdivisions will come under city SP (east). Town, Kotwali and Secretariat subdivisions will be under city SP (central). City SP (west) will look after Danapur, Phulwari and Paliganj subdivisions. There are altogether 50 police stations under the nine subdivisions.
The rural SP will deal with Fatuha and Barh subdivisions which have only 19 police stations. Earlier, Masaurhi was under the rural SP while Fatuha was under city SP (east).
“The problem is that I joined as city SP and the transfer notification did not mention whether I have joined as city SP east, west or central. The number of pending cases has increased to 8,000 in Patna (east, west and central). It is not possible for one IPS officer to deal with the cases of 50 police stations,” said city SP Lande.
Last year, there were 4,100 pending cases with the 71 police stations of Patna district. The number has increased to around 9,000 till December this year. In 2011, Patna was divided into three zones with three young IPS officers as city SP under one SSP for effective policing. Now, things are back to square one.
