BICHOLIM: Calling the defence portfolio a challenging one,
defence minister Manohar Parrikar assured the audience at an event in
Sakhali, North Goa, on Saturday that he will bring about “unique changes” in the existing status of the Union ministry within a period of a year with the blessings of the people of Goa. He however did not elaborate. Parrikar was the chief guest at the two-day Ravindra Mahotsav at Ravindra Bhavan, Sakhali.
The former chief minister of Goa further lauded current chief minister
Laxmikant Parsekar for handling the first 45 days of the state’s new administration in an “excellent manner” in terms of all-round development, supported by “good decisions” and “justice”.
Parsekar, who created quite a stir by arriving at the venue on a bullock cart he drove himself, said the state government has been able to retain Goa’s traditional culture through various programmes and has been able to prove that Goa is not merely a state for fun and frolic.
He further said he is making serious efforts to improve Goa’s image at the international level by undertaking grassroots-level development, besides discouraging ‘misdeeds’ in the state.
Parrikar was felicitated by Parsekar on behalf of Ravindra Bhavan with a shawl, srifal (coconut) and a traditional lamp. Others felicitated included painter Shivanand Khedekar, dentist D Guruprasad Kapadi, and teacher Gajananan Karpe.
