ALLAHABAD: The project of turning Allahabad into a ‘Smart City’ has turned into the most debated topic among powers-that-be and intellectuals. Urban development’s additional secretary Durga Shankar Mishra stressed on holistic physical development of urban infrastructure in tune with the concept of Smart City that would ensure better facilities to citizens.
Calling for optimum utilization of resources, he raised the issue of ‘smart intelligence’ and the need to harness modern technology and IT solutions for city infrastructure.
He encourage out of box thinking. Mishra also stressed on round-the-clock water supply and asked Jal Sansthan general manager RB Singh to challenise resources properly.
Mishra stressed on segregation of the sewage from the drain water for better solid waste management (SWM). The infrastructure has been developed at a cost of Rs 3,041.49 lakh with the laying of sewage lines and development of STP (sewage treatment plants).
He also stressed on bringing the entire city under the ambit of sewage plan. It was told that the city generates a waste of about 265 MLD which will increase to about 296 MLD in 2025. Municipal commissioner RP Singh pointed out problems in timely lifting of garbage and stressed on generating oil or electricity from processed waste.
Allahabad Development Authority’s vice-chairman AK Singh gave a detailed presentation of the city attributes and challenges. Land locked by two rivers, the city had potential for urgent growth, he said and talked about Master Plan 2021 devised to meet requirement of the city till 2021.
Regional Manager of UPSTRC spoke about Intelligent Transport Management System ( ITMS) in the whole city. Under the plan, CCTVs would be installed in buses for the security of passengers and to monitor activities of suspicious persons. The city buses would also be equipped with GPS system which would provide precise location of the bus to Central Control Room.
