Wondering how to get around on New Year’s Eve? Trying to decide when to spend those holiday gift cards? Looking for something to do with the kids on New Year’s Day?

Assuming you’ve already sent your New Year’s Eve party RSVP, here’s what you need to know to plan your New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

TRANSIT

TTC buses, streetcars and subways will be free of charge from 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to 7 a.m. on New Year’s Day.

The subway will run extra late, until about 4 a.m. Here are the times that the last trains leave.

  • Line 1: north from Union Station at 3:30 a.m.
  • Line 2: east or west from Bloor-Yonge Station at 3:37 a.m.
  • Line 3: east from Kennedy Station at 4:07 a.m.
  • Line 4: east from Sheppard-Yonge Station at 3:58 a.m.

The TTC will run on a Sunday schedule on New Year’s Day, with subway service starting at 9 a.m.

GO Transit will run on a special schedule on New Year’s Eve that includes more early afternoon trips and more late night trips.

GO Transit service will be free after 8 p.m.; PRESTO users are reminded not to tap their cards.

SHOPPING

  • LCBO and Beer Store locations will be closed New Year’s Eve at 6 p.m. and will be closed New Year’s Day
  • Toronto Eaton Centre will be open 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year’s Day
  • Yorkdale and Sherway Gardens will close at 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve will be closed New Year’s Day
  • Scarborough Town Centre will be closed New Year’s Day
  • Vaughan Mills will close at 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year’s Day
  • Sobeys, Metro and Loblaws grocery stores will close early on New Year’s Eve (mostly at 6 p.m.) and will be closed New Year’s Day

FAMILY FUN

  • The Toronto Zoo will be open New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada is open 365 days per year. The hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
  • The Royal Ontario Museum will be open 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day
  • The Ontario Science Centre will be open both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Nathan Phillips Square skating will be open both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

WEATHER

Environment Canada forecasts a high of -7 C on New Year’s Eve, plus a chance of snow flurries, so revellers may want to plan the party outfits accordingly.

New Year’s Day is expected to be windy, with a mix of sun and cloud, and a high of -2 C.
