If the Centre gave special status to AP, many other states may demand the same

KAKINADA: Union urban development minister M. Venkaiah Naidu told reporters at Samalkot on Friday that the previous Congress-led UPA government had taken the bifurcation decision undemocratically and the present government was trying to solve these problems.
He said that majority of states should accept the proposal of giving special status and special packages to Andhra Pradesh in Parliament. If the Centre gave special status to AP, many other states may demand the same, he pointed out.
He also said that AIIMS would be set up in Mangalagiri in Guntur District and the ‘Bhoomi Puja’ would be performed soon. He said that a high-level committee had visited the area and a report would be submitted by the committee soon.
The minister added that the special coastal corridor between Visakhapatnam and Chennai would come up soon and the area would be developed vastly in future. He also said that the Central government had brought an ordinance for completing the Polavaram Project, which would be a boon to Andhra Pradesh.
He also praised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for implementing the farm loan waiver scheme in an efficient manner amidst financial crisis in the state. Speaking on giving Bharat Ratna to Madan Mohan Malaviya and A.B. Vajpayee, he said that the respect of Bharat Ratna had increased with the decision.
