PUNE: The state government has appointed
Kasba Peth MLA and parliamentary affairs minister
Girish Bapat as the guardian
minister for Pune district. Bapat will replace former deputy chief minister and NCP leader
Ajit Pawar, who had shouldered this responsibility during the Congress-NCP regime.
The state government announced the list of district guardian ministers on Friday.
The guardian minister of a district is the chairman of the district planning and development councils and chairs meetings in which district planning is discussed and funds allocated by the state government are disbursed.
Bapat told mediapersons that he would focus on the city’s problems that have been pending for years. “Garbage, traffic and transport are on the top of the agenda. The BJP government is committed to providing better facilities and amenities to the city,” he said.
