AHMEDABAD: Unitedworld Institute of Design (UID) organized ‘Heal the World’, the first of its kind inter school competition on the theme of solid waste management. Heal the World is an environment awareness programme is conceptualized and organized by Unitedworld Institute of Design to engage student fraternity to spread the message to the community at large, by practically involving them into creation of models (working, non-working) from waste.
More than 250 models and posters were presented by the participants in the exhibition. The competition witnessed participation of approx 900 students & 40 schools from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Abu-Road and Kolkata.
On this occasion Ritesh Hada, Director Unitedworld Group, shared, “We received an overwhelming response from these young and dynamic students from various schools and I am also grateful to the school management who encouraged students to actively participate in this programme and make ‘Heal the World’ a great success.”
Dr SK Nanda, CMD Gujarat State Fertilizer Corporation Ltd was the chief guest at the event.
Heal the World is a programme to sensitize the students about solid waste management. For exceptional performance in competition, Karan Verma, Chintan Radhanpura and Himalaya Jadeja of Pearl Special Need Foundation were announced as winners of the competition for making a unique 3D model of sanitary and hygiene hardware made out of used oil cans.
Among class 9 and 10 students, the first prize was jointly won by Saiama J Narmawala of Asia English School and Devang N Amin of KVSAC, Vastrapur. For second position, two participants— Saumya Jain, DPS Gandhinagar and Nandini Acharya,of New Tulip International School while the third position was bagged by Hitiksha Solanky and Shiba Ansari of Navrachna School. Among students of class 11 and 12, the prizes were won by Shyam K Dandhaniya of Vidhya Niketan School (Rajkot) who won the first prize whereas Sonali Dutta, Aratrika Chauhan and Pratik Dey of D.P.S., Prakash, Agrasen respectively stood secnd. Ananya Soni from J.G.International School secured the third position. In the third group, of under graduate students, Isha Pattani and Devanshi Patel from Amor Design Institute secured first position while Pratiksha Tiwari, Zeba Arshi, Chandrakesh Yadav from BRDS and Udita Das, Siddharth Rahi and Monika from BRDS secured second and third positions respectively.
