Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 102 session of the Indian Science Congress, which is scheduled to be held on 3 January in Mumbai, www.microfinancemonitor.com reported.

The Congress would be attended by many Nobel laureates and globally-renowned scientists. The Congress would have as its central theme: 'Science and Technology for Human Development'.

The inaugural session and main sessions would be held at the Kalina campus of the Mumbai University, with an estimated 12,000 delegates, before its conclusion on 7 January. The congress was last held in Mumbai in 1969.

The Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) was established in 1914 by two British chemists Professor JL Simonsen and Professor PS MacMahon who sought to stimulate scientific research in India through an annual meeting of research workers somewhat on the lines of the British Association for the Advancement of Science.

Starting with 105 members and the presentation of 35 papers at the first session, ISCA had grown into a huge fraternity of over 10,000 members as of now.

The session would see symposia on relevant themes like the Women's Science Congress, Children's Science Congress and a science exhibition organised during the session, according to Mumbai varsity pro-vice chancellor Naresh Chandra.

Around 12,000 delegates were expected to attend the mega event which would also see the presence of seven Nobel laureates and four Nobel-equivalent prize winning scientists, PTI reported.
