Names for Chandigarh Cong chief sent to Delhi?

CHANDIGARH: Finally, it is learnt that a four-member panel consisting of the names of Pawan Sharma, Ravinder Pal Singh, Pardeep Chhabra, and Harmohinder Singh Lucky for the post of the party's city president has been prepared and sent to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for consideration, and to the party's vice-president Rahul Gandhi for a final decision and announcement.
Sources within the Congress, however, confirmed that the name would only be finalized in the last week of December, but the formal announcement will become public in the first week of January.
Pawan Sharma is presently holding the post of party's vice-president in the city, while Ravinder Pal Singh and Pardeep Chhabra are former city mayors. Harmohinder Singh Lucky is former Youth Congress president, and the city's deputy mayor. Though the party's city in-charge and national general secretary Shakeel Ahmed said the panel is yet to be formed, some party sources in New Delhi confirmed the formation of the panel, the list of which was sent to Sonia Gandhi late on Wednesday night. "A few names have come to light, and the names have been proposed by different people. We will study the names and send the list to the party president in the first week of January," Shakeel told ToI.
Party sources in New Delhi revealed that the name of Pawan Sharma has been recommended by former city MP Pawan Kumar Bansal, while both Ravinder Pal Singh and Harmohinder Singh Lucky have been forwarded by some other party leaders in New Delhi. The name of Pardeep Chhabra has been added at the last minute, as earlier, there were only three names in the panel.
"Former union minister and city MP Pawan Kumar Bansal was in New Delhi in the past few days. Though he held discussions with Shakeel Ahmed, he met neither the party president Sonia Gandhi, nor the vice-president Rahul Gandhi. "The party's current in-charge of Chandigarh definitely met Rahul Gandhi over the matter," said a senior party leader in New Delhi.
Tussle for names
Party sources revealed that some senior leaders were eagerly trying to add the name of the party's former municipal councillor Chandermukhi Sharma, but it is learnt his name had not been added until Thursday. The sources further revealed that a huge tussle is going on among senior party leaders to get their own people selected for the party's city president post to make their own survival in the party easy in the future.
