CHANDIGARH: Suspended defence officer Ajay Chaudhary, who hit headlines along with controversial Punjab police IG Gautam Cheema, was detained in Sector 9 on Thursday evening for possessing a .30 bore Chinese pistol, which allegedly belonged to Devinder Gill, against whom the two had lodged some cases in Panchkula and Mohali.
Chaudhary was taken to Sector 3 police station and is being interrogated by cops.

Sources in police said Chaudhary was detained following a tip-off from his long-time friend Rashmi Negi. She allegedly called the police control room informing them about Chaudhary possessing a pistol without valid documents.
Sources told TOI, "The preliminary probe revealed that the seized pistol belongs to Devinder Gill, against whom Cheema and Ajay had lodged some cases in Panchkula and Mohali. The pistol was stolen from Gill's house in Mohali in 2012 and he had lodged a DDR at Mataur police station in Mohali."
When contacted, Gill said, "Chandigarh police informed me about the recovery of my pistol from Chaudhary and asked me to come along with all valid documents related to the weapon at PS 3 on Friday."
ASP (central) Guriqbal Singh said, "We are verifying all the details and have also sought some information from Mohali police. It is an inter-state issue and a DDR has been lodged."
Chaudhary and Cheema were booked for allegedly molesting, confining and thrashing Mohali resident Krispy Khaira on gunpoint on September 2. Chaudhary's questioning was on till the filing of this report.
