The city ushered in the first Christmas celebrations in the new State of Telangana with more hope and excitement.

At various mass congregations held at churches across the city since Wednesday midnight, there was special mention of Telangana’s prosperity. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao also participated in the Christmas prayers held at the Centenary Methodist Telugu Church in Gunfoundry on Thursday.

Flanked by Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, daughter and TRS Member of Parliament Kavitha, as well as other senior functionaries of the government, the Chief Minister told the gathering that efforts will be on to uplift all the communities.

He shared that this church held a special place for him as he had said during last years Christmas celebrations that the festival will be celebrated in the new state in the future.

The Nizamabad Member of Parliament joined the choir group and sang carols during the celebrations.

Political leaders were seen participating in Christmas celebrations across the twin cities. The city shimmered with festive fervour as thousands of Christians and people from other communities left no stone unturned to immerse themselves in the celebrations. While many visited the churches dressed in their best and exchanged greetings with friends and relatives, others were seen having get together at homes with traditional delicacies. Commercial establishments like clothing stores as well as eateries too did brisk business. The sizeable Anglo Indian community in the city too joined the celebrations in a big way.
