New Delhi: Luis Suarez is not all about biting, diving and racism charges. On the eve of Christmas, the Barcelona star showed his humane side by sending gift baskets for children and families at a hospital in Uruguay.

Suarez, 27, who infamously bite Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, has been at the receiving end of criticisms, blaming the temperamental forward as a flawed genius.

It may well look a publicity stunt from an uber-rich sports star with a dark past to redeem some of his lost pride, but Suarez remains one of the most loved personalities in his native country. An act of charity, however small it may be, is always welcomed.

The former Liverpool star sent 500 Christmas gift baskets to the Pereira Rossell hospital in Montevideo. The gift baskets included food and drinks.

But the heartening part of Suarez's philanthropist effort was the message, which read: 'Wishing you a merry Christmas and a wonderful 2015 with your loved ones. Luis Suarez and family.' It seems, Suarez is a reformed person.

Last year, he donated the cash award after winning the Football Supporters’ Federation Player of the Year to the Teleton charity in Uruguay that looks after children with neuro-musculoskeletal disabilities.

He is also an ambassador for children's cancer charity, Scremini Perez, in Uruguay.
