AHMEDABAD: The health department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and education department have swung into action and issued notices to DAV school in Makarba for unhygienic conditions at the school premises.
For the second consecutive day, parents gathered at the school to protest against the death of a class 3 student from dengue on Monday. The parents even ransacked the security office when they were not allowed to enter the premises and meet the management.
The parents insisted that the management from Delhi be called for the meeting.
According to the parents, despite the Christmas vacation, they had decided to gather and protest, but as they went to the school, they were stopped by barricades which were put before they reached the gate. The guards stopped the parents which created tension after which the parents ransacked the security office.
The parents were later allowed to meet the principal and demanded that the top management be called for the meeting. However, once they were assured of a meeting on Friday, the parents went to meet municipal commissioner D Thara.
Meanwhile, district primary education officer Praful Zalu said that they had sought a report from the school management and the authorities had already sent their report. “We are scrutinizing the report and will soon send the school a notice,” he said.
Meanwhile, a group of parents also met Thara and demanded that the area be cleaned immediately. Zakir Hussain, a parent, said that AMC officials said that they were not dumping waste in the area, but it was some unidentified person who was dumping the waste in the area. The commissioner assured them that a security guard would be put in the vicinity to stop illegal dumping.
AMC has also given notice to DAV school and during the check, they found mosquito breeding in the basement and a few toilets, said a senior health officer who was present when the check was conducted in the school. The school was also fined Rs 5,000 as administrative charges for unhygienic conditions.
