History-sheeter assaults PCR head constable in Prahladnagar
AHMEDABAD: Assaults on police personnel are on the rise. After two such incidents in Ramol and Shaherkotda where cops came under attack from goons, a head constable on duty with a PCR van was attacked by a history-sheeter, with a brick, in Prahladnagar on Wednesday morning.
“Head constable Navneet Sonara sustained serious head injuries. Other cops on duty managed to nab the accused, Kamlesh Athwal, a resident of Krishna Dham in Prahladnagar,” said a police official of Anandnagar police station.

According to the complaint by Sonara, they came across Athwal who was pushing a bike near Krishna Dham in Prahladnagar on Wednesday morning.
“On suspicion, we intercepted him and as we were questioning him, Athwal picked up a brick lying nearby and hit Sonara on the head. The other cops rushed in and caught Athwal. Sonara was rushed to a nearby hospital” said Anandnagar police officials.
On verification, it was found that Athwal was earlier arrested by Madhavpura police for six offences of robbery and theft registered against him. “He was also arrested once for committing a theft in Satellite,” said Anandnagar police officials.
Senior officials said they instructed police personnel on patrolling duty to stay vigilant. “We have even asked them to sport protective gear and keep weapons handy while intercepting suspects on the road” added senior police official.
