No top Telugu gals made a mark
Instead, it's all little-known actresses who made headway in 2004 in Tollywood
So which actress ruled Telugu cinema in 2014? The answer is: none. For the first time in several years, there is hardly any heroine, who can be ranked No 1 in Tollywood. In 2012, it was Kajal Agarwal and in 2013, it was Samantha.But that has not been the case in 2014 because of various reasons.
While Kajal Agarwal had limited opportunities and her only Telugu movie in 2014, Govindudu Andarivadele with Ram Charan, got lukewarm response at the box office. Trisha was not seen in a single movie in 2014. Tamannaah was seen in Aagadu opposite Mahesh Babu and she preferred to seek a career in Bollywood. Anushka Shetty migrated to Tamil and she was part of the Telugu version of superstar Rajinikanth's Lingaa.
“This year showed that top male stars are tired of acting opposite the same superstar heroines. Many of them preferred acting with new faces. The year 2015 is also no different considering the casting deals that have been done this year for future projects,“ said a top casting agent from Hyderabad.
And little-known actresses are making a mark. New faces Kainaz Motiwala, Swati Reddy, Pooja Hegde, Rashi Khanna, Rakul Preet Singh and Adah Sharma were part of hit movies.

Technically, Samantha had the maximum number of Telugu releases in 2014 with Manam, Autonagar Surya (opposite Naga Chaitanya), Alludu Sreenu (with Bellamkonda Srinivas' son) and Rabhasa. Of these only Manam was a blockbuster while Rabhasa (Jr. NTR) made some noise. Besides, the success of Manam was largely attributed to the Akkineni family as all the three generation stars featured in it. Hansika Motwani was part of Power opposite Ravi Teja and Shruti Haasan shared the screen space with Allu Arjun in Race Gurram. Both movies were declared hits.But they had no other movie in Telugu that made an impact this year. “The year 2014 did not belong to any one particular actress in Telugu movies.In fact, popular actresses faded away from the screen this year. A few of them thought it was time to move to other languages. This could be the beginning of the entry of younger stars into Tollywood,“ said film critic H Kumar.
