Uthappa game to open, keep wickets
NEW DELHI: With every game, Karnataka opening batsmen Robin Uthappa is nearing his dream of making it to the 15-man final squad for the World Cup. Part of the 30-man probables list, Uthappa has scored 254 runs at a healthy strike rate of 78 in their three games and is the highest run scorer for Karnataka in the season so far.
"Well I hope to make it to the World Cup squad.
However, I would like to stay in the present and make sure I fulfill my role in the team. I have been able to do that with decent amount of success this year so I am happy. I have set certain standards for myself and want to live up to them," said Uthappa.
Uthappa, who had expressed his desire to open the innings for India in the past, said he would be happy to play anywhere for India. "It's an honour to represent the country. When you are playing for the country, you do not have the liberty of saying 'I would like to play in this particular position'. I am equipped enough to bat at any position. I have always looked at myself as to what role I need to play for my team. If I get the opportunity to play for India, I would play to the best of my ability in whatever position I get. And I think the best of my ability is at the international level," he said.
Uthappa said he is even willing to don the wicket-keeper's gloves if needed.
