INDORE: Concerted efforts by the anti-suicide helpline and presence of mind of city police prevented a young MBA graduate girl from jumping to death from a multi-storey building in the posh Vijay Nagar area here on late Monday night.
It was around 10.15 pm on Monday that the city police control room (PCR) received a phone call from a girl, who was hell bent on ending her life from the five-storey building.
She was going through an emotional crisis because her live-in partner was cheating on her.
The call was diverted by the PCR to the Spandan-life moves on anti-suicide 24x7 helpline, whose official Rajeshwari Pathak, subsequently kept the girl busy on the call for nearly an hour, trying to convince the girl aged around 22.
“The girl was determined to jump off the building, but I managed to distract and engage her in talks for an hour. Meanwhile, two police constables of Vijay Nagar police station managed to locate the building and the girl as well,” Pathak told TOI.
Two constables Sriram Merent and Sarvesh Singh Lodhi deployed in the mobike night patrol Baaz squad of Vijay Nagar police rushed to the terrace and convinced the girl to shelve her suicide plans and subsequently got hold of her on the edge of the terrace. At around 11.20 pm she was brought to Vijay Nagar police station in a PCR van and later sent to Pardeshipura police station, Vijay Nagar police station in charge CS Solanki said on Tuesday.

The girl, who hails from Jabalpur district, has been in a live-in relationship with a private bank officer for the past six years. They lived in Clerk Colony locality. The girl recently got to know that her live-in partner was having an affair with another girl.
Pardeshipura police station in charge Sudhir Kumar Das confirmed the episode and said, “The girl realised her mistake and gave us a written undertaking stating she won’t attempt suicide again.
Subsequently, the family of her live-in partner from Clerk Colony took her back to the house, but we’ll still keep a tab on the family and the girl”. The episode has exposed the state of security at multi-storey residential buildings in posh Indore localities. Despite a watchman being deployed at the building concerned, the girl managed to get to the terrace.
