Muhammad Ali re-elected in Thrikkakara

Congress 'A' group leader P I Muhammad Ali has been re-elected as the chairperson of Thrikkakara municipality on Tuesday.

KOCHI: Congress 'A' group leader P I Muhammad Ali has been re-elected as the chairperson of Thrikkakara municipality on Tuesday. Ali was re-elected after 'I' group chairman Shaji Vazhakkala tendered resignation on December 1.
Ali who received 29 votes beat M A Mohanan of CPI (M) who got 12 votes. Xavier Thayankiri of Congress proposed the name of Ali to the post.

Ali was the chairperson before Vazhakkala assumed the office last year. Vazhakkala resigned as per the agreement that power will be handed over to 'A' group after one year.
K A Varghese, deputy collector of land acquisition, was the returning officer. Congress councillor Ajith Babu Joseph abstained from voting. In protest against the re-election of Ali, CPM councillors staged a march in front of the municipal office.
