Harish Chandra Durgapal, an Independent MLA in Uttarakhand, who is the Labour Minister in the Harish Rawat Cabinet, joined the Congress on Tuesday further strengthening the position of the Congress, which a few months ago was in a position to get toppled by the Opposition party – the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Surendra Singh Arya, former Congress spokesperson said: “Mr. Durgapal joined the Congress as an associate member and though he will remain an Independent member in the Vidhan Sabha, his support will strengthen the position of the Congress party in the State.”
