Get Back In The Testarossa With This Motion Simulator Port Of Out Run

This article is more than 9 years old.

The 3D racing title Out Run is one of the most loved --yet rarely played-- video games of our time; a best-seller in its original arcade format, but sadly obscure on more modern systems. Now a company called Force Dynamics has revived the game on a motion simulator platform, and it looks awesome.

Originally released by Sega in 1986, Out Run won fans because its arcade consoles provided an engrossing cockpit experience, exciting driving and glorious stereo music. Later, the game was released for the Sega Master System and Genesis, and in 2014, the Nintendo 3DS. But it just wasn't the same playing the game on a small screen and without a steering wheel.

Enter Trumansburg, NY motion systems manufacturer Force Dynamics, who have ported the game over to their 401CR vehicle simulator.

According to Force Dynamics president David Wiernicki (disclosure: we knew each other in college) this is the original arcade Out Run from 1986, ported to the PC via the open-source work of Reassembler. Force Dynamics modified the source code to provide the output needed to run on its platform. And Wiernicki says "it's even more fun than it looks."
