While talking to TV Times, Gurmeet revealed his new fondness for kids, "Since last four or five years, I have started loving kids more than I used to do. I am saying this genuinely. I think this is the right time to start a family. I believe that one should always keep spicing up a relationship and there should be something new to look forward to. Like you can't be girlfriend-boyfriend for too long or husband-wife for too long. Debina and I, we both are thinking about it. TV's heartthrob Gurmeet Choudhary has been spending sleepless nights these days. The devastating earthquake that recently hit the nation has also hit his life. A report on Mid-day.com states that Gurmeet is trying to get his parents and brother to Mumbai. They are stuck in Purnia, Bihar, which was affected by the earthquake. Gurmeet was quoted in the report as saying that his parents are experiencing aftershocks from the past few days and that there is no power supply in the village. He further added that his family has to spend nights outside the house.

Though Gurmeet Choudhary comes from an army background, he always wanted to be an actor. His friends and family used to call him Shashi Kapoor when he was young, probably due to the resemblance. Apparently, this nickname had been given to him by his grandfather who wanted Gurmeet to become an actor. Since then, he is known as ‘Shashi.’ Talking about nicknames, Gurmeet is also called as Patnivrata by his friends as he is deeply in love with his wife Debina. He had also contested for the title of ‘Mr India.’ His first salary was Rs 1,500 that he fetched for featuring in an advertisement.

To give a more realistic touch to his character Gurmeet grew his hair for one and a half years.

Khamoshiyaan is considered to be his Bollywood debut but very few people know that Gurmeet has been a part of a movie called Cycle Kick earlier. This movie was produced by Subhash Ghai and directed by Shashi Silgudia. He played the role of a protagonist in the film. Later on he also played a small role in movie Koi Apsa featuring Aftab Shivdasani and Anita Hassanandani. He played the role of a college friend of Aftab Shivdasani's. He has also been a part of many music videos.
